What are the two major political parties in the United States?
The two major political parties in the United States, as of my last update in September 2021, are the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.
-
The Democratic Party: The Democratic Party is often associated with more liberal positions. Democrats tend to favor a more active role for government in society and believe that government should help to alleviate social ills and protect civil liberties.
-
The Republican Party: The Republican Party is often associated with more conservative positions. Republicans tend to favor limited government intervention in society, lower taxes, free-market capitalism, and a strong national defense.
These are broad characterizations, and there is a range of beliefs within each party. The platforms and ideologies of these parties may evolve over time in response to changing political, social, and economic circumstances.
